Said to have come from Wells cathedral. C.1330

Supporters - Leaf.

The seat is six-sided with slightly projecting point in front, and is bordered with a sunken moulding carved at intervals with carved rosettes.

 Said to have come from Lincoln Minster. C. 1370

The following misericords are of unknown origin 16th century. They came into the possession of the Museum in 1910. Most are in store at Osterley House or Bethnal Green museum.

Two storks or cranes standing back to back, with their necks arched so that their heads touch over their backs.

Woman’s head, in a flat head-dress with scarf drapery.

Man’s head, with well-defined features and protruding ears, wearing a biretta-like cap.

Woman’s head with parted lips, showing irregular teeth. She wears a close fitting cap that covers the ears.

Two amphisbaenae, standing back to back on a machicolated base.

Man in crouching position, with hands holding his head, as if the whole supports the bracket. He is wearing a long coat and boots.

Two parrots, with wings outspread, standing side by side on a T-shaped perch.

Two men dancing, with raised knees. They wear long skirted coats.

Head of a woman, wearing elaborate head-dress with flowing veil. The collar of her gown is pointed.

Two dancers facing each other, each having one arm raised and the other outstretched, with the hand resting on his companion’s shoulder. They wear skirted coats, girdles with wallets hanging from them, and ankle boots with openings of the front of the anklets.
